Margaret Thomas Koogle,President of Lilypons, is the fourth generation of her family to oversee the business. Margaret approaches everyday as an exciting opportunity to help our customers achieve their dreams of having a water garden. Her genuine enthusiasm and vast knowledge of the subject calms nervous beginners and excites long time pond owners who may call or email frequently to discuss their concerns or share their pond experiences. Margaret’s number one priority at Lilypons is customer satisfaction and her dedication to this fact is well known by our many happy returning customers. When away from her desk, she loves spending time with her husband Tim, and her daughters Caroline and Annemarie.
Richard M. Koogle is Vice President of Lilypons where he has been an invaluable leader since 1979. Currently, Richard’s primary focus is pond installation, consultation, and speaking; areas in which he is able to utilize his vast knowledge of ponds and artistic talent to help people achieve their dreams of a backyard oasis. Richard is also instrumental in maintaining our nearly 100 year old facilities and acreage. He and his wife Victoria have five children, one grandchild, two dogs, and a cat. Richard enjoys coaching his children’s sports teams and when he has time, loves to canoe, fish, and play in the outdoors.
Melissa Richard, Office Manager, started working at Lilypons in 1999 as a customer service representative. Providing superior customer service has always been of the utmost importance throughout her career. Other responsibilities include administrative and accounting support. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, including three amazing children. She has passed on a love for the outdoors to them and their latest pastime is boating.
Jon Sander is our operations manager and has been working at Lilypons since 1990. Throughout his career, his love of aquatics has been evident in the quality of the plants and fish provided to each and every customer. Having earned a bachelors degree in Earth Science and Education, he enjoys teaching others about water gardening and especially loves explaining how simple it can be to those who are apprehensive about digging a pond. Jon lives with his wife and daughter, 2 cocker spaniels, and 4 ponds of his own. His daughter loves feeding the fish.
Bob Lawrence is part of our friendly sales staff and has been working at Lilypons since 2011. We knew Bob long before he came to work with us as he was the postmaster (now retired) of our local post office and a regular customer. He enjoyed his own pond so much that upon his retirement, he re-entered the workforce, and has become a valuable source of knowledge for our customers. Outside of Lilypons, Bob enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Brad Warner, Senior Sales Associate and Assistant Buyer has been working at Lilypons since 2002. Many of our customers have come to depend upon Brad’s extensive experience and sound advice as he was an avid pond owner prior to working with us. Brad is also a gifted decorator whose talents are enjoyed by all who come to visit our showroom which changes from season to season. In addition to working weekends in season, Brad is an elementary school teacher in Montgomery County. The few moments of free time he has, he enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and two Pembroke Welsch Corgis.
Caroline Koogle has been working at Lilypons since 2004 and is a member of the family’s fifth generation. Caroline recently graduated from McDaniel College and she still helps out during the busy season wherever needed. You may find Caroline assisting customers at our retail showroom, working in the office, assisting with buying merchandise, or even packing orders. Caroline is an avid reader, movie buff, and enjoys listening to music. She also loves spending time with her friends and family.
Karen Mazza is part of our friendly sales staff and has been working at Lilypons since 2010. Karen is a professional gardening consultant whose calm demeanor and clever mind has helped many people decide what is best for their pond. From fish and plant stocking to waterfalls and streams, Karen’s advice is always appreciated and understood. Karen enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and grandchild. She maintains a beautiful garden of her own in which she generously shares cuttings and seeds.
Suzanne Boom is part of our knowledgeable and friendly sales staff and has been working at Lilypons since 2011. Suzanne is a marine biologist and artist whose love for animals has led her from her home in the Netherlands to the United States. Suzanne works closely with our customers to understand their pond’s needs and advises them on stocking, filtration, and water quality. When not working at Lilypons, she runs her own business, Gibbons Rock Studio, specializing in pet portraits, wildlife art, and custom framing. Suzanne lives with her husband Jim, their wide variety of pets, and enjoys visiting her parents on their house boat back in The Netherlands.
Garry Wagner has been a fixture at Lilypons since 1962 and we can safely say that he has seen and done it all with no plan of retiring any time soon. Garry’s expertise in water garden maintenance has come by hands on experience with hundreds of ponds and there are just as many happy pond owners who request his return every year. When not making house calls, Garry is busy at Lilypons maintaining the grounds and ensuring that our ponds never dry up. Garry is a proud father and grandfather who enjoys spending time in the great outdoors. He has nearly completed hiking the Appalachian Trail and has plans on touring the national parks of the west.
David Hoffman started working at Lilypons in 2011 as a member of the sales staff but since has also become a valuable part of weekend fulfillment and plant production. He still works in sales where many customers have enjoyed the one on one attention that David always provides. He has a passion for all aspects of water gardening from raising dragonfly larvae and fish to picking out the best waterlily for your pond. David’s positive attitude and outlook on life is infectious and we welcome his hilarious commentary and insight. David lives with his fiance Ashley and they enjoy hot-tubbing and working in their garden.
Richie White is our warehouse coordinator/dry goods shipper and has been working at Lilypons since 2008. Richie is committed to getting every detail correct which is why Lilypons has an almost perfect shipping history and such a reliable inventory report. He is also responsible for assembling many of our privately labeled products which he takes great pride in. Richie enjoys camping, spending time with family, and supporting his favorite sports team, The Washington Redskins.
